Henri Matisse is regarded as one of the great innovators of 20th century art.

Matisse spent over half a century exploring the expressive language of colour. He argued that an artist does not have total control, and enjoyed the act of losing himself to the forces of design, form and colour. Through this intuitive process, he created harmony in his famous compositions.

In this wonderful art workshop you will create a variety of artworks based on Matisse's famous cutout collages.

Matisse began making paper cut-outs long before showing them to anyone as works of art. In fact, the first paper cut-outs he made were a means to an end as early as 1919, a way of working out ideas for his larger works of art. This makes sense when you look at some of the artist’s early works of art, such as his paintings of dancers, which, although painted, have the crisp, clean qualities of cut and pasted paper. Matisse even noted in his later years that his breakthrough collages were, “a long time in the making.”

An enduring icon of modern art, Matisse's playful motifs + eloquent line drawings have been relentlessly popular since the 20s.

Our essential like the Masters 'Saturday Studio Sessions'  are an excellent way to practice drawing, painting, and other forms of art. You will learn and practice composition + colour combinations + sketching in + cuting + stenciling + historical context avec Master artist Henri Matisse.

FAQs Is there a minimum age requirements to enter the event? We use age as a guide and recommend this workshop for children age 16+, although an adult could potentially do this workshop alongside a younger person.
